• Pears: You can use any variety such as Bartlett, Bosc, Anjou, or even Asian pear. If you don’t have pears, apples are the perfect substitute.
• Ground ginger: For a a warm, citrusy flavor that screams fall. Feel free to swap in any seasonal spice such as cinnamon, cardamom, or pumpkin pie spice.
• Turbinado sugar: Also known as demerara sugar or sugar in the raw. This is the finishing touch that brings a sweet crunch and a bit of sparkle. If you don’t have any, just skip it.
This is best eaten the same day. But leftovers can be stored, loosely covered, at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
To freeze this baked galette (or individual slices), place on a parchment-lined sheet pan and freeze until solid. Transfer to a freezer bag and freeze up to 3 months. Defrost in the fridge.
