Preheat oven to 375 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
Place the bread slice on the prepared baking sheet. Remove the inside of the bread, but leave a border. (Don’t pull up too much from the bottom or the custard could soak through. If you remove too much, you can patch in some of the bread scraps.) Firmly press in the bread with a spoon.
Combine the yogurt, egg, sugar, and salt.
Transfer 2 tablespoons of the custard to a small bowl. Add the ube halaya and combine.
Pour the plain custard into the bread (do this on the baking sheet). Dollop around the ube custard and swirl with a small butter knife.
Bake until the custard is set, about 20 minutes. Cover loosely with a piece of foil if getting to brown.
